Quinta de Ventozelo 2001 Tinto Roriz

Picked this nice drop up at Total Wine in Charlotte for about 15 bucks. I've had Tempranillo (another name for the Roriz varietal) wines before, brought into work by a customer of ours who's a HUGE winemaking aficionado, and really enjoyed the characteristics it had. A note on the description card mentioned this one pulled a 92 rating in Wine & Spirit. For the price, I thought, what the hell, may as well give it a shot.


After having most of the bottle, I am definitely putting this Vineyard on my list of one's to remember.

The Roriz poured purple-black with a subtle nose of fruit and cocoa. Mouth feel was a little thin for my taste (but I think i'm spoiled there from drinking so much port) but it tasted wonderful: silky, mostly vibrant fruit with some darker notes. Finshed smooth, with nice, relatively restrained tannins.

At the price, I feel like it preformed well for a 5 year old bottling.


Only downside: the little twit at Total Wine I run into from time to time, is a complete know-it-all, and creeps me the fuck out sometimes.
