Anti War songs

There was a big article in the paper today about "where are all of the musicians/bands with the anti war songs?" The only thing they came up with was Sprinsteen's Rising, but that's more 9/11 than anti war. And it was comparing '60's artists and such(country Joe etc. ) with anthem like political songs/message songs. So, anybody know of any newer artists taking tis subject on specificly?

I guess Madonna is coming out with some controversial anti-war song/video. Then there's the "pro-war" (for lack of a better term cause no one really wants war) song by Darrel Worley (sp?).

It had a song called John Walker's Blues.

John Walker's Blues
(Steve Earle)

I'm just an American boy raised on MTV
And I've seen all those kids in the soda pop ads
But none of 'em looked like me
So I started lookin' around for a light out of the dim
And the first thing I heard that made sense was the word
Of Mohammed, peace be upon him

chorus:
A shadu la ilaha illa Allah
There is no God but God

If my daddy could see me now – chains around my feet
He don't understand that sometimes a man
Has got to fight for what he believes
And I believe God is great, all praise due to him
And if I should die, I'll rise up to the sky
Just like Jesus, peace be upon him

chorus

We came to fight the Jihad and our hearts were pure and strong
As death filled the air, we all offered up prayers
And prepared for our martyrdom
But Allah had some other plan, some secret not revealed
Now they're draggin' me back with my head in a sack
To the land of the infidel

A shadu la ilaha illa Allah
A shadu la ilaha illa Allah

This is not a war................there is no draft!

Even with this countries last great "conflict".....Vietnam.......there was a draft.

I believe the only reason this "conflict"/"police action" is being called a "war" is because your homeowner's and car insurance won't have to pay if there is a retaliatory strike. If you don't believe me ......read your policies.

Now that I said my 2 cents.......

......I still think Alice's Restauraunt was one of the best protest songs going.

Riot, War, Civil Disobediance, Commission of a crime or acts of God are typical exclusions on all insurance policies.

However, if we DO ever get to actually kicking Saddams ass we will be at War, draft or not. The draft is only called in if there are insufficient enlistments or high casualty rates.

I think musicians are less apt to spout off prior to military action than actors seem to be, most are surprisingly quiet right now. Maybe they are worried about the fact the gravy train has ground to a halt with the advent of P2P and if they ailenate themselves from the fans they may lose even more $$$?
