Sagamore Spirits Cask Strength Rye

Uh, yeah. Pretty sure this is one of the better foundations for a great Manhattan. Not bad neat, either.

I am sure that there are good ones, but every rye that I have tried has burned like fire water.

I'm a rye ho. Love the spice.

Nasty booze is nasty, no matter the mash; but there's something special in a well-crafted rye.

That bittersweet 'snap' one experiences in the better rye whiskies is something to behold. And, as with many a whiskey, there's no direct correlation between age and quality. I've tasted excellent rye whiskies, both young and old.

A few just off the top of my head:

Wiser's Legacy
Lot No. 40
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel
High West Rendezvous Rye

Wlllet 2 year old rye is very good

Maryland style rye is a thing again, there is some excellent rye from the area now.

Off topic a bit, I saw a rye made in Detroit yesterday, have one from Hammond IN.

And if you want a bargain, at $25 a bottle, Old Forrester 100 Proof Rye is quite quite good. Really punches above its weight.

So does rye by nature have a hot burn profile?

Killed off a bottle of Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel a couple of weeks ago. Tried some with St Augustine Old Fashioned mixer, makes a really good drink. I have to get more mixer. Looking to try some more ryes too.

I broke out a bottle of Balvenie Caribbean Cask last night, lovely, but for sipping not mixing

Not too familiar with ryes. Have picked up Redemption Rye at Costco. It appears to be 4 yrs old. A decent sipper neat or with a couple of cubes.

Templeton is a good introduction to rye. Whislepig is great, but pricey.
