My Redskins Dilemma
The last thing I want is another Coach in Washington. Since the 2000 season we have had eight coaches, Turner, Robiskie, Schottenheimer, Spurrier, Gibbs, Zorn, Shanahan and Gruden. Eight!
But here's the deal. Gruden is the Joe Flacco of NFL coaches. He has moments of well executed football but just as many or more of less than stellar moments. He does not inspire his players. Yes, the players make millions and should not need inspiration but other well paid NFL players have inspiring coaches. When it comes to the big stage or the big moment he disappoints. This season when we could have beat Carolina (5-8) for a playoff berth we looked horrible. Again, when we played the Giants to get into the playoffs we played flatter then flat. How many games did Gruden get out coached? A lot. How many times did he flub clock management? The guy he has play calling is horrible. And we do have some talented players and some that need more coaching to become better at their position. But what are my options? Rex Ryan? Nope. Jeff Fisher? Nope. Marvin Lewis? Nope. Would have considered Tom Coughlin. Not great but man has skills. Perhaps an unproven DC or OC in the shadows somewhere? Or stick with a lackluster Gruden. Love to have his brother. I know a lot of folks will point to ownership. And I can't disagree. But man I wish we could get a coach to build a team around. |
