San Lotano Dominicano Robusto by AJ Fernandez and Jochy Blanco

This cigar has a medium dark toothy wrapper with some veins. The aroma from the foot suggests cocoa. The cold draw is perfect. Today’s beverage is a Tupps Brewing Full Grown Man-Child.

The initial flavors are lightly bitter with just a hint of cocoa in the background. The retohale is smooth and medium. The ash looks solid and the burn is even.

This is a medium bodied smoke. In the first third the bitter notes abate some. The cocoa notes are deep in the background of the flavor profile. Slowly rolling the smoke on the tongue deepens the flavor but doesn’t affect the profile. The retohale remains smooth and picks up a bit of black pepper. The ash remains solid and the burn remains even.

The ale is rated at 40 IBU, a touch high for a stout, and may be contributing to the bitter notes of the smoke.

During the second third the bitter notes have tapered off some and the smoke is developing a rich quality with some cedar notes. The pepper notes in the retohale remain light. The ash fell into the ashtray in a solid chunk. The burn has become uneven, but not enough to correct.

Approaching the final inch the pepper notes in the retohale have increased a bit. No traces of cocoa remain in the flavor profile. The construction of the cigar is very good and the complexity is very pleasant. The ash continues to drop at intervals, but remains mostly solid. The burn has corrected itself and is once again even.

8.9/10, Joe Bob says check it out.
