Vacuum is going to damage sticks or boxes only if done in a loose container (bag for example) where the item might "collapse" on itself in low pressure. There is no danger of this if you are creating a vacuum in a ridid container like you mention.

Personally, I think you are wasting your time. If you have a large collection of valuable sticks, or do a lot of trading then you might want to think about freezing. I personally have multiple good-sized humidors that are all kept at 65/65 and feel like my risk is minimized and distributed as a result. I do freeze sticks that I receive that are of questionable provenance and that I intend to keep for awhile.

Certainly if you are smoking the sticks within weeks there is absolutely no point in freezing them.
