Ah, finally a new method for post padding. Great initiative!

Just a guess: When you use beads correctly, you don't saturate them. You use water sparingly. Mold usually shows up in over moist environs. Like the back of an oasis humidifier. Or inside a reservoir type. There have been instances of mold with beads. But I think they were saturated.
Now I get two posts for the price of one!

Post padding? Post padding? I didn't know how frequent the post above gets read and responded to. I didn't want to just start a new post because I thought the question was relevant to the post above.

Okay, maybe I'm just post padding. But how many posts are just or or or etc? At least I typed something. :P

Xrun is correct. As long as the amount of moisture is contained within the beads they will not mold. When they are over hydrated and allowed to have moisture on them or in worst case scenario sit in a puddle of moisture they can mold.
