I'd also like to clarify other statements by assuring you that the salt test does not create a corrosive environment. Salt does not evaporate and is not present in the airspace above a salt slurry. Manufacturers of hygrometers state that warning about salt testing because the salt or salt slurry may ruin the hygrometer if you spill some on it. Provided you take precautions against getting salt or salt slurry on the hygrometer, there should be no problems...
