Humification device location?

I finally got a humidor but don't think a lot of the humification device that came with it.

I was wondering if the humification device needs to be mounted on the lid. I have a Credo that is one inch thick and would like to stand it on end in the bottom of the humidor. If I mount it on the inside of the lid it will limit the amount of cigars I can place under it.

Is this a good thing to do? Or would it work better laying down?

I know these are studid questions to ask but I am new at this and want to do it right if possible.
