Age old question - wet the humidor or not???

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I am new here. Have been smoking cigars for about 10 years, and have had a humidor for about 5 of those years. The first humidor I had, a cheap one, I used to spray distilled water in the inside on the top to keep moisture levels up... by the time I got rid of the humidor, the wood looked really bad. So, I now have a better humidor and have only done that once so far...

However, I once went into a cigar shop and the dude was spraying water onto his cedar cabinets. (He also said NEVER use chemicals/gel to increase humidity as it kills the taste of the cigars).

So what's the verdict here - only wet the sponge in your humidor, or any of the wood?
