I smoked my cob last night. It was a good smoke, but it kept going out. I know smoking a pipe requires a lot more work and fiddling as compared to a cigar. But it was getting a littler annoying. But when it was smoking well it was great.

I'm sure the more I smoke pipes the easier it will get.

Don't know what you are smoking, but most tobacco comes out of the tin pretty moist. I always dry my tobacco ahead of time. It smokes much, much better.

Ditto...dry it out some.

I can't remember what i was smoking, but it's one of the samples a member of this group sent me quite a while ago. It's not in a tin. It's in a plastic bag and I store all of the samples i have in to larger mason jars.

Maybe I should let the tobacco sit out a little longer. Or maybe I'm packing it to tight?

If it was packed too tight, it would be hard to draw in smoke. Try drying it out more. Should smoke better.

That's what I thought. I figured if it was to tight it wouldn't draw well. I guess I'll try drying it a bit.

I started with a couple no-name pipes from my local B&M that cost $10/ea. They didn't have the best looks, but were good smokers.

My advice is to find a pipe shape and finish that appeals to you. Then shop around. eBay is a good resource for used pipes as you can check the price history for past sales. I'd recommend the seller "pipestud". He's been selling quality pipes in all price ranges for 15 years and will not disappoint.
Thanks. I took a look at that seller and he seems to have some good pricing on nice looking used pipes.

Yeah, what's been already said, dry your tobacco out a bit before smoking it. Also don't pack your tobacco too tight. There's nothing wrong with corn cob pipes. I have many of them and enjoy them a lot. By the way, if you are looking for estate pipes, another place would be Blue Room Briars. And again, if you know what to look for, you can find some great smoking pipes at low prices. For instance, I have Royal Guard that is made by Stanwell, it's a great smoking pipe. Rossi pipes are made by Savinelli. Check out the different web sites, I think you'll find what you want.
