Somebody asked me a awhile back how Alabama got its nickname

And I just looked it up in the ESPN college football encyclopedia.

The Crimson part came from the color of the stockings they wore in early days. Sometime around 1900, a sportswriter began to refer to them from a Kipling poem titled "The Thin Red Line". Another sportswriter in a wet game turned the red line moving down the field into a tide.

How did they get the elephant for a mascot?

The 1930 team (undefeated and Rose Bowl champs) was very large by the standards of the day. When Alabama took the field against Mississippi, a MS fan shouted "Hold your horses, the elephants are coming"

Free speech is free speech is free speech. There is no qualifier.

If you aren't outraged, you aren't paying attention.

Never attribute malice to that what can be explained as stupidity.

Unborn lives matter too.
