Muscle Shoals Documentary
Also on Netflix.
I found this fascinating, a farmer from Alabama…forms one of the most famous studios in music history. Rick Hall, and his group of studio musicians (all white dudes from Bama) helped produce some of the biggest names in the business. Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Duane Allman recorded there some, and wanted Rick to record the Allman Bros band, but he didn't think it was right for him. But interesting on some of the more soulful records, like Aretha and Ettas, they were backed by an all white band. Good ole southern boys. Who says southern white boys don't have soul?

Well this guy had quite an ear, and he has musicians..coming from all over to record there. And the studio musicians he used, were called the Swampers…as referenced in the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, "Sweet Home Alabama". I really enjoyed the documentary.

I enjoyed it. IMHO the best song ever came out of there was Percy Sledge's When a Man Loves A Woman what a great recording

Watching it now. It's certainly some good background music to write by.

Great doc. I watched it several months ago. Need to find the book. Sounds right up my ally.
