La Galera Maduro Robusto

Wrapper: Ecuadorian
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic

Coffee and leather aromas from a very smooth wrapper and foot, a firm bunch and a clean clip with a smooth cold draw.

The initial draw gives plenty of flavor including sharp pepper notes in the retrohale. Also plenty of espresso and leather in the smoke. Quite a full body and full flavor gem. The beer is a very fine stout that pairs well with the cigar.

The burn is very clean and the smoke is plentiful. A light grey ash is firm with no flaking. The initial hot-shot of pepper has dropped off a bit. This would be a great cigar to pair with an espresso.

The ash falls about one inch in, still very solid. At 1/3, the pepper is all but gone leaving a nice complex blend of espresso and leather. The fairly large band was fairly easy to remove and did no damage to the wrapper.

Just past removing the band a hearty blast of cinnamon appeared, adding yet another dimension to the flavor. The draw remains pleasant and cool with plenty of smoke. The cinnamon has developed into more of a nuance although still plainly present.

At 2/3, a light sweetness develops to enhance the cinnamon and espresso notes, pushing the leather notes into the background. The flavor is matching up very well with the stout, which has its own complexity. A very solid pairing.

Approaching the final inch the smoke is still remarkably cool and smooth. Only when the wrapper got too hot to hold did I have to put it down.

Quality construction, complex flavors and bountiful smoke make this another winner from the new releases at IPCPR 16. Easily a 9/10. Joe Bob says check it out.
