Dan, every rice cooker is different and you will need to do some experiments with water amounts to find your cookers sweet spot. Hope it works out.

good advice , and agree , I doubt right out of the box I will get the results I am after, but , will play around ...

I shall report back ....

Edit ... I only opted for a different one because of the size ...

This is good advice. Our large rice cooker (Sanyo) was pretty spot on out of the box. The little no-name 1c took a couple of runs to get the water ratio right, I assume that is due to the small amount of rice making it a bit more picky. Once dialed in my rice has been perfect EVERY time.

OK, bought a rice cooker , still sticky rice ...

So , I switched to basmsti rice , rinsed and soaked it , it came out much closer to what I am after, i think with a few tweaks I will be fine.

Type of rice absolutely impacts the output. I use Basmati almost exclusively (buy the big 25lb bags at Sams). Have not found the need to rinse it but YMMV. Tweak the water level in your cooker until you dial it in and you will be all set.
