Smell from varnished boxes

Anyone ever found a way to eliminate the smell of varnish from finished cigar boxes? I have had several with varying degrees of stench that I will not place in my Aristocrat due to the smell.

A couple of the worst offenders lately have been LFD Litto Gomez Chisel and a box of big Gurkhas I bought last year.

Torano Exodus are not quite as bad.

But the Fuentes that are varnished seem to have no smell at all.

I realize that it is a marketing ploy to make the boxes look good on the B/M shelves.

I just transfer the cigars to another empty cedar box to store in the humidor, then I wash the box down with baking soda then let it set out in the garage for a couple of months until the smell subsides.

Anyone found a better method to deal with this? I like storing the sticks in the box they come in, but I not going to stink up my humidor.

The Litto Gomez had such a nice box - what a waste - I had to wash it down 2 times and let it set for 6-8 weeks before I could use it.
