How do I "rejuvinate" stored pipes?

Well, I dug out the boxes of pipes that I put away about 5 years ago when I got burned out on smoking pipes. I didn't clean them or do anything to them when I stored them, so they smell pretty rank. I've got 30 - 35 briars and meerschaums, and I'm not really sure what they need. Should I scrape down the insides of the bowls to get out all of the old cakeing? What about the bits? Should I just clean them good with some pipe sweetener and cleaners? How do you guys clean up old estate pipes when you buy them? Any advice will be welcomed. Also, I still have about 1/2 lb of my old tobacco in a plastic bag. It still seems moist. Is it likely to be smokable?
