I'm in the process of gauging the accuracy of several of my digital hygrometers using the Boveda calibration kits obtained from Viper. These kits are pre-set to 75.5% By the way--great service Viper, thanks!! Currently being tested are the following 5 units:

1 Western III
4 Diamond Crowns

Results so far (these need to sit for at least another day, so things may change a bit)

Western III -- 72%
Diamond Crown-- 68%, 69&, 72%, 73%, 75%

So the majority are reading a little low. My understanding is that these kits are reusable (for 3 months), so I'll be testing a few more Diamond Crowns and 6 Radio Shack wireless units. I'll report back. In case anyone cares. LOL.

dudeu sure have alot of hygrometers. do you have alot of humidors or are u just paranoid?

results of hygro tests are always interesting though to see how different brands do and the differences among the same brand.

LOL. A little of both. Two Aristocrats and a Vigilant, and 5 desk tops. Readings as of this morning:

Western III: 74%
Diamond Crowns: 68%, 69%, 74%, 76%, 77%

how often do you guys calibrate your hygrometers? i have the humigaugage cigar shaped digital (http://www.littlehavanacigars.com/pr...?prod=HY1062LT). when i bought it, i went to JR and asked the guys to leave it in the walk in for an hour while i had smoke by the bar. it was off by 1%. that was about 8 months ago.

The Boveda calibration kit suggests re-checking every 6 months. But of course, they want to sell more kits. LOL. I usually check my hygrometers every few months, but up until now, I used the method of placing them all next to each other to see if they were consistent. Not too scientific.

Daily. My precious cigars require the utmost in care and accurate monitoring.

Seriously, I checked my hygrometers once. That's it.

is it worth it to get a digital meter for a humi that only holds 100 sticks? I currently have an analog one that sits at 68-69 but it definitely goes down if I have the humi open for a couple of minutes.

I think so.. Digital are more accurate in my opinion. I have a small analog that came with my humidor. I don't use it but I have salt tested it.. calibrated it. Still gives readings all over the place. Piece of junk. I love my remote wireless ones from Radio Shack

Yes. The analogs are junk. They are not reliable, even after a salt test and calibration. Do yourself a favor and get a digital.
