Aristocrat, Avallo OR Antietam + Cigars????

Hello,

I'm new to this board - but, I'm hoping some of you may be able to give me some advice.

In the past couple of months I've been considering purchasing one of these humidors. I could order the Avallo www.avallohumidors.com/home/ah1200rbac.jpg or the Aristocrat www.aristocrathumidors.com/arist-dbldrw-1.jpg and have no $ for a while to fill it.

Or, I could order the Antietam and the cigars to fill it.

What would you do and why?

I think only you can answer that question. Instant gratification or long-term strategy? Go with what meets your requirements along with how long you are willing to wait. A fine piece of wood should last long after you and I are memories. Having said that however, I am aware that not everyone has the same amount of discretionary income. Listen to your heart.

Depends on your needs.

Each Aristocrat is going to be unique, because they are handcrafted and no two boards are going to show the same grain pattern. If you have specific decor requirements, only a custom built one is going to meet your needs unless your decor matches one of the standard finishes otherwise available.

Besides the Aristocrat, you can also look at Avallo humidors and still get a custom finished cabinet if that is what you want.

Each one is going to store and humidify your cigars for many years to come.

As long as we are suggesting other sources, you might want to check out:

www.arlinliss.com and www.petroglyphdesigns.com

I suspect because the high end desktop market has slowed, more and more wood makers and importers will be introducing cigar cabinets in a wide range of prices. Keep in mind, you should not be concerned solely with aesthetics but with functionality and quality of workmanship (to include the type of hardware used, how to select the right humidifier, etc.). Get the best you can afford. You'll never be sorry.

More importantly, do your homework. Learn a little about carpentry, joints, the differences between various types of wood (there are differences in terms of density and "workability"), hinges, moisture sealing, etc. The more you know, the less smoke will be blown your way (no pun intended). Good luck.

Best value in cabinet humidors is Avallo hands down.

hands down? why hands down? I think to some degree, between the Aristocrat and the Avallo, it's a tossup with the deciding factors being certain option availability preferences. Certainly not craftsmanship or price. The prices are comparable when optioned out similarly

I agree Rocket. If you are going to make a statement like that, please elaborate. It takes a little more time, i.e., like the Petroglyph review but if I'm shopping around for a high-ticket item, I want to know as much as I can.

Both the Avallo and the Aristocrat are made by solid craftsman, both are comparably priced, both offer a selection of options/upgrades, and are similiar in size. Messrs. Avallo and Staebell are reputable individuals that stand-by their work. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Thanks for the link ak2000.

Now I have another candidate to consider - plus a couple questions ......

This is exactly how I would want it configured if I decide to go with the Avallo or the Aristocrat... www.avallohumidors.com/home/ah1200rbac.jpg

From what I've read so far - these 2 units are top quality cabinets and both companies offer great customer service and support.

The price difference would be approx $100 - $150 - with the Avallo being the less expensive unit.

Questions -

- The Avallo offers a 1 year warranty - the Aristocrat seems to offer a lifetime warranty ("Should a problem ever occur. Call us, send it back and we will promptly repair it or send you a new humidor."). Should this be a concern?
- What features set these two apart?
- How do the humi systems compare?

Thanks again,
Dave
