Beetle Eggs

What is the likelyhood of beetle eggs remaining in a cab once the cigars have been removed and frozen? If so how do you remove them if they can't be seen?

This may be naive, but why don't you just freeze the box too?

could it be that easy? Of course it could, but I don't enough freezer space for the whole cab I thought of the old rubbing alcohol wipe but thought I'd ask the grey beards around here first.

This advice was given to me by an FOG who just happened to be in the insect extermination business (as well as being a cigar lover): You take a propane torch such as one would use for sweating pipes and very carefully "swab" the entire inside of the cab with it. It was explained to me that beetle eggs have a much lower ignition temperature than cedar; and therefore it is possible and effective to incinerate the eggs with the torch without damaging the cedar. Obviously, this must be done with the greatest of care and precision. You wouldn't want to scorch the inside of the cab. I've never tried it, but being fairly handy am pretty sure I could accomplish the task without damaging the cab. If you're somewhat mechanically inclined this should be no problem. What's the worst that could happen?

Use the search button...I'm quite sure this has been discussed before.

Also, if I remember, you've got to freeze dwon to -40? in order to kill all the eggs...they can also live in the wood.

ps, I've never frozen a cigar in 20 years of smoking...and I'm not gong to start now.

Hmm... I would say your easiest solution is to freeze the cigars intact in the cab. So make some more room in the freezer. This also protects your sticks from handling damage and being transferred out of the cab and back into the cab. That's why I also freeze everything intact in the cab. My .01!

If freezer room is the problem try dry ice. Here is a post on using dry ice from Club Stogie.
