How could I screw up with beads?
Apparently I did. Pulled the container out last night, and I have mold growing on my beads. Yes, I was using distilled water.
WTF?

You sure the room mates aren't funnin' with ya? Maybe they watered the beads with fruit juice or something while you were gone...

You've picked up mold spores from somewhere. Did you leave them out somewhere for a while before putting them in?

Sounds like you forgot to put four layers of weatherstripping and 4 concrete blocks and a stack of books on top of them.
(I have no idea where the mold could have come from.) |

After you find a way to get rid of the mold, you might try what I do and see if it helps. I simply place a shot glass half filled with distilled H20 in the container of beads. The H20 evaporates from the shot glass and is absorbed by the beads slowly over time. It's as close to maintainance free I've come.
Good luck! |

That's a real shame indeed, especially at $25.00 - $30.00 a lb. for those suckers. Next time try the ExquisiCat Unscented Crystals which are about $1.50 a lb. and apparently do the exact same thing I've heard from several experienced people.
Here's a thread about them: http://www.cigarwise.net/forums/show...272#post289272 |

Plus, kitty litter never molds, glows in the dark so you can see your cigars in a power outage, and in a pinch you can eat it.

Mold forming on the beads is rare but does happen. Generally it is because they were kept too wet, sometimes even sitting in water. When hydrating the beads add only enough distilled water to make 65%-70% of the beads clear.
