Whole leaf tobacco shredders

Buying whole leaf tobacco and shredding it yourself can be a big cost savings. Here’s a good vid on whole leaf tobacco shredding using a manual table top shredder.

The one thing I would do different then what they do in these vids is spray the tobacco leaves with a fine mist of distilled water before shredding. The leaves are usually shipped dry. Shredding it while the leaves are too dry might result in choppy dusty cut leaf rather then uniform shag or ribbon.

I have a cheap shredder I bought at a head shop. Works great. I shred Leaf by Oscar wrappers mostly.

Jeff, are you using any topping to treat the whole leaf tobacco before shredding? I hear some people use distilled water mixed with 30% of Everclear alcohol to spray on the leaf to soften the leaf, and the mixture is an antibacterial agent. Some people just use a mist of distilled water on the leaf before shredding. Just curious if you do this.
