Tough enough to pick one group or album and you want one song? I like some of Lightfoot's stuff as well. Carefree Highway etc.

When the Levy Breaks
Stairway
Layla
just about all of the Doors, Beatles, Tull.

I love all classic rock, no way to pick just one.

Uuh, Gordon Lightfoot isn't rock...

Earlier 70s:
Uriah Heep - Easy Livin
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Mid 70s:
Iggy - Lust for Life
Lou Reed - Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Later 70s:
Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen
Ramones - Blitzkreig Bop

Summer of 72', out on the road heading to Tennessee , got caught up in the James Gang " Live at Carnegie Hall " LP. Songs like Walk Away , You're gonna need me , Lost Woman to name a few. To me , this was the best CHIT ever recorded live. Played it on stereo , played it in the band. Runner up , off the Yes Fragile LP, Southside of the Sky , Heart of the Sunrise. I hitched a ride to see them in OKC at the Civic Center during the summer of 72' ..... watched them set up and rehearse then the concert began!! What an experience for a 16 yr old kid. Life was good and so was the smoke!

Gordon Lightfoot isn't rock. HOWEVER, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is a great song. Real music. What does that mean?

Music, to me, is when the combination of instruments, and voice(s) transcend the written music, practiced licks or riffs, and take on a life of their own, touching the listener. Wreck certainly does that, it captures the "unrealness" of the disaster and its effect on the familys and sailors.

Stairway to Heaven

Maybe I'll come up with others.

Tough choice, as this kind of questions always are, so I'll just answer the first one that came to my mind:
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond
