The instructions that come with the Western Digital III specifically say not to do a salt test and the warranty will be void if you do. They don't explain why this is however. It also doesn't explain why 3 WHIIIs I went thru all read 10% low... but that is another thread

I just keep a conditioned, partially full humidor well stabilized with 65% beads and use that for all my calibrations. From what I've heard salt testing requires very exacting conditions that are usually not met.
