Holy smokes! Two new GLP blends

G. L. Pease: Temple Bar
Rich, ripe red and sweet golden Virginia tobaccos are generously spiced with fine, fragrant Orientals and enhanced with a delicate touch of Perique for a bit of added depth and complexity. The leaf is carefully layered and pressed for a fortnight into large cakes, which are then cut into bars and tinned, ready to be sliced and rubbed out as desired for your ultimate smoking pleasure.

G. L. Pease: Regents Flake
A generous measure of fine Izmir leaf is layered on a sturdy foundation of mature red and sweet bright Virginia tobaccos, then pressed and allowed to mature and ferment in cakes before being sliced and tinned. This is one for the lover of Oriental mixtures, with their exotic and enticing incense-like aroma and brilliant flavour. Rub up a flake or two, fill a cherished pipe, and prepare for an exceptional smoking experience.

They sound great! I got five tins of each for starters.

Well, actually three new ones. (but I'm not buying any Lat blends)

G. L. Pease: Renaissance Reserve
True to the original formula, Renaissance Reserve is a blend of Cyprian and Syrian Latakias, several matured Virginias, and Balkan Orientals blended in just the right measure for many months to provide a rich, complex, and sophisticated smoking experience.

I'm with you on the no Lat blends, just don't do anything with any Lat anymore. The RR sure got snapped up quick though. Those other two sound delicious.

Skeeter, Hermit, Regarding Latakia blends, is it that you don't like Latakia tobacco, or is it you simply got tired of Latakia tobacco?

I really like Lat blends, especially Lancers Slices, and PS Balkin Supreme.

I only discovered pipes a little over eight years ago.
When I started, I was absolutely nuts for Latakia.
I couldn't get enough of it. Then, after a couple of
years, and almost suddenly, the Lat Lust was gone.
I wish it would return. I've been holding on to the
Lat blends in the cellar, but I oughtta think about
trading/selling some. Fortunately, my taste changed
before I cellared too much Latakia.

(Anybody lookin'? Aged Lat blends for sale or trade.)

Latakia always tastes the same to me. Virginia's can widely vary. Sweet and tangy reds, grassy, haylike brights, deep earthy browns, stoved, etc...a smorgasbord of flavors. Toss in some figgy, deep fruity, spicy, Perique. A little nutty, chocolatey burley...cube cut white burley maybe. But you can keep the same old boring Latakia.

For me, I smoked it, liked it ok, but never loved it. Took me a while before I decided I just didn't want it in anything I smoked. Once I started really getting into the Virginia's is when I decided that I'd just rather not have even a slight bit of it in any blend. And some say it doesn't age as well, fading over time. I disagree to an extent there. One of the best blends I ever had--that had the stuff in it--was a well aged tin of Dunhill Nitecap. But I think that maybe was a result of the wonderful VA and Izmur leaf there and not so much the Lat fading over time. Still, I kept thinking how good this would have been if they had just left out the Lat altogether, ha-ha.

And I don't really care for the smoky campfire thing in Lats, although I do like Kentucky Dark Fired. Just a different animal. Go figure, ha-ha.

Like Hermit, I do have some in the cellar. Traded off most of them but there's a few gems in there still. A lot of guys love the stuff, it makes for good trade stock.
