B&M shitty storage, etiquette question
Went to a fairly new cigar bar on a whim, so didn't have any smokes with me...thought it would give me a chance to try something new. While in the walk-in humidor at least 75% of stock had mold and everything way overhumidified. Appears as only the newest stock was clinging to smokeability. The really interesting part of this experience, is the owner both sells cigars online as well as rents lockers in the humidor.
So, the question... What is the best way to tell the owner his smokes are crap without basically calling him a jackass? The place is find for a drink/smoke, but WOULD NEVER buy another cigar from there again and feel for the poor bastards who have a locker there. |

Over the years here I've seen this question come up a few times. Some B & M guys are very appreciative of help and some are downright pig headed stubborn. I would just tell the fellow that you have done a lot of research on the subject (as this is your hobby) and point out that his investment is dwindling and once ruined can never be brought back. You would be happy to share what you've learned with him. You'll find out instantly which of the two he is.

You could also tell him that people with experience will see this mold and not want to smoke there or buy from him

Tell him you want to talk with him over a couple of cigars, your treat. Grab a really nice moldy one from the humi and give that to him.

I have seen this a few times but I never care to interject my opinion. They are usually located in touristy areas. I have seen boxes of moldy Padron Anni's and other very expensive cigars in walk-in's that must be set at 80% humidity. It ceases to amaze me. I can only assume that at least in the short term, people buy and smoke these saturated cigars. Poor bastards.

I ALWAYS tell people if their tire is low, cigars are stored incorrectly, guitar is setup wrong, car lights are left on....etc it's part of being a caring person.
Tell the man that his cigars are not stored properly - Wouldn't you want someone to tell you if there was something wrong in your area. Telling him is the right thing to do, PERIOD. I would have told him right then without hesitation & would hope someone would do the same for me.
