Cigar Weekly

I'm in a bit of a crunch with moving back to my house in the upcoming month. I have a house down here @ school that I will be moving into, but I probably will only spend a weekend a month there. I am also contemplating bringing 1 or 2 of my humidors back home so that I dont need to worry about moving 4 humidors + a cooler under my parents' watchful eye.

Do you think my cigars would be okay if I left them at my house for a month unattended to? Should I add more distilled water then normal, maybe make it read 70% vs my normal 63-65%? Or should I just move em and hope my parents dont realize whats in the bags.

Thanks a lot guys..man its gettin to be annoying having to hide my stash....wish my dad would smoke w/ me.

Living in Florida has its perks to this situation. I have to tend to my humis about every 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. So I'd say it would be a long shot, I wouldn't risk a month.

I say move them.

What I did last summer with a move was line a cardboard box with a large garbage bag, then load as many boxes as I could, with bundles on top. I then twist tied the bag shut. The cigars and boxes held plenty of humidity to keep things moist enough until I could unpack them three weeks later. I checked the humidity of the boxes when I opened them up and they were still over 63%. I also kept my humidifier in the box which made things happy.

I have humidors in several different locations. Sometimes it can be a month or more between visits. When I know I won't be back for a while, I put my humidor (with its humidifier treated the same as if I were going to be using it daily) in a cooler and place a humidifier in the cooler outside the humidor. The cooler is in a cool place (basement). Never any problems, even after a month or two.

I typically can go a month without worrying too much about my humis, however there are varying factors such as temperature, quality of seal of your humi, type of humidifcation, etc... that can all have a impact unique to your situation. With that said, always better to be safe than sorry.
