What songs most effectively capture their time? Capture the events or culture or frame of mind at that time? Here's a couple:

CSN & Y's Ohio: "Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming..."

Chicago's Dialogue (Parts I & II): "Don't you feel repression just closing in around?" "No, the campus here is very very free."

Rod Stewart's Do Ya Think I'm Sexy: "If you want my body and you think I'm sexy come on sugar let me know"

Ben Folds Rockin' The Suburbs: "i take the checks and face the facts
that some producer with computers fixes all my sh!tty tracks"

There's gotta be thousands of these - songs you can listen to and know exactly when they came out. How about some more?
