Yep. If I'm dealing with an environment with very low RH or something that needs to go for a long time between refills, I use an Oshkosh. There isn't any rocket science behind them. You are dealing with florists foam. But, there isn't anything else out there with the footprint of an Oshkosh that will hold 10 oz. of fluid. That means a LOT of serious humidity addition from an Oshkosh for quite a long time.
Like Reid said, Climmax media and other silca based gels will do a good job of maintaining humidity. They don't have a very large absorbtion capacity compared with other alternatives and they do require more care and maintenance. Not every product is a "one size fits all". Florists foam comes the closest to meeting that cirteria, but it isn't perfect. It's a matter of determining the environment your humidors are in and then going from there. You may also find that you need a different humidifer at different times of the year. In the summer when it is much more humid, a Climmax or slica gel based humidifier may be the best choice. In the winter when the RH is much lower, you may need to switch to florists foam for its added capacity. |
