Anyone listen to the DVD Audios? I have Forplay's DVD-A and just bought Steely Dan "Two Against Nature" and Emerson, Lake & Palmer "Brain Salad Surgery" (you can tell my tastes are all over the board).
Yesterday it worked. Today it is not working. Windows is like that.

CDs are sampled at 48 times per second. The DVD Audio is over a hundred. Much higher quality. Your DVD player must be able to handle them though. I just learned I also must set it up so my system does the digital processing in the DVD player, not the AV amp. Thus I need 6 cables run from the outputs of the DVD to the audio in of the amp. Yes it's very much higher quality and more presence to the music.

The problem I have with all of this "amazing" new technology is how much of it is sheer hype and overkill. How many people here will actually be able to tell the difference? I'd love to be able to say that I would, but I know for a fact that I've done enough damage to my hearing over the years that investing in something like this would cut unneccesarily into my cigar budget.

Ross, you can thank the "powers that be" for having to link 6 analog cables instead of one digital cable to listen to DVD-A. They don't want you to be able to record it in the digital domain and do bootlegging. Yes I have it and yes it superior to CD quality but the selection is pretty sparse at this time and the format may end up dying off.

Ross,
>>>..CDs are sampled at 48 times per second. The DVD Audio is over a hundred<<< Compact Discs for audio are sampled at 44,100 times per second. DVD-A ups that to upwards of 192,000 times per second. Also, CD is two channels whereas DVD-A... well. Best bet is to see my Interview and chart at http://www.enjoythemusic.com/dvdaudiointerview.htm hope this helps. BTW, the ELP DVD-Audio is excellent

jefslat,
No, I rented it. It's pretty funny - check it out if you get a chance. BTW, the DVD transfer from film is excellent. |
