65% bead question

All (esp. Viper)

When I got my 65% beads, they knocked the RH from 70 down to 68 or so and then it rose back up to 70. I have NO source of humidity in the box and it just stays @ 70 no matter what I do now.

If I open it (like I did a second ago,) leaving the guage (digital) in the same spot, it gets down to 63% without issue. Thus, when I close the lid, my little cigar weather system takes hold and back up to 70% it goes...

My question is two-fold:

1) Perhaps I didn't use the right amount of beads (small Humi, so I scaled down the amount of beads give the 1 lb = 5 ft^3 measurement) Is there such a thing as too MUCH beads? If I put a pound (for argument) of beads in a small box, will it still just suck it down to 65% and not just leach all available moisture from the air?

2) Do I need to "activate" the beads with distilled water if I'm trying to bring the RH down? I am wondering if the reason they're not doing their job as I thought they were initially is because I actually have to actively wet them first.

I didn't wet them because my RH is already too high (70%) and I want to get it down to 65%

Thanks for any advice,

Chris
