Oktoberfest Offerings

Last weekend I tried Sam Adams, Harpoon and Spaten. On three different days I liked one more than the other two.

Harpoon and Sam's are pretty close. Both are heavier and have a chocolatey malty flavor. Good for the cool nights. The Spaten is a little lighter and a bit more hoppy. Much better for Indian Summer.

What other Oktoberfests are you drinking?

In my drinking days (I'm a retired professional ) I always preferred the Hacker Pschorr Octoberfest. Very malty and carmelly. So much so that you're tempete to CHEW it. Imho, it was the best.

Btw, here'a a link to LAST YEAR's thread on exactly the same subject. Enjoy!

I picked up 12 of the Sam Adams and was not impressed. Especially after I had some Old Dominion Octoberfest over the weekend while I was in Virginia. That stuff was tasty, much better than the Sam Adams, IMO. Wish I could get it here. Anyone in Virginia should check it out. (I got it in Reston, not sure about availability elsewhere in VA.)

Of the few german beers you can get here, I've tried the Oettinger (one of my favorites), the Lowenbrau, Warsteiner (another good one) and Becks.

Personaly I enjoy Bockbier and Altbier.

Rx.

I had an Ayinger over the weekend. Fine, fine stuff-- it's got the malt that makes a great O'fest.

Sam Adams just never did it for me-- the malt isn't right for the style.
