Hit the thrift store jackpot
Was taking Katie to pick up some vintage clothing at Goodwill. Getting ready to go, I was looking through the folio (large format) section where most cookbooks are found. Saw a copy of Prudhomme's Louisiana Kitchen in the dust jacket. I picked it up, thinking for $3 I might buy it anyway. Well, it turns out that it's inscribed and autographed bu the 3 people responsible for the book, editors and Prudhomme himself. It must have belonged to someone he knew to get it inscribed like this (his trademark phrase), they don't generally go to that extent at book signings. So, for $3 I got a book that is likely to be worth around $200-300, depending on how the story is authenticated (mostly for the editor's signatures on the flyleaf).
