There is NEVER NOT a line at Parkway Bakery any more except deep into mid-afternoon.

You really have to watch where you go, ask me about neighborhoods and such. Robbery, car-jacking, and other crime is up 75% into the triple digits in the last year in the city of New Orleans. Even common areas that have been fairly safe for years are now dangerous if you're not vigilant. NOPD is exceedingly slow to respond to anything that's not outright homicide including vehicle theft and car-jacking.

Yep, I've had a heads up about the French Quarter specifically. There is a Colonel here that had temporary duty in NO a couple years ago. He said during the safety brief before turning all the Marines loose on libo for the weekend they were told not to venture off Bourbon Street. He was told if you stray a few blocks off Bourbon Street the trannies are very very aggressive. And to not travel alone go in groups. Crazy.

Not certain. The new D.A. is a Soros stooge AND is under some sort of federal indictment. The law may still be on the books, after all, how many laws actually ever get repealed even when superseded? But on the books or not, good luck getting a fair shake in the city.

Look up Merritt LeBlanc (I believe that's his name.) Shot a guy on his own property after the guy invaded his home. Was acquitted a few years ago. Word in local "media" is the city is going after him, again.

I welcome any recommendations of mom and pop places for gumbo and boudin? Doesn't have to be in NO. I know there are many other dishes but those two are my 1 and 2 seed. Gumbo just to see how bad off I am on my roux. And boudin just because it sounds damn delicious.

Boudin is DAMN delicious when it's done well. It really is more of an Acadiana (south-central Louisiana--centering on Lafayette, La.) thing. There are a couple possibles in New Orleans, but the best is from around Lafayette and Scott, Louisiana.

Gumbo, it would depend upon which part of town you end up in and which day of the week. Place around the corner from my own house has a really good gumbo, but they're closed on Sundays. In Slidell, I am pretty certain that Southside has great gumbo, I've had it. Every place does it a stitch differently, so it's a fun pursuit.
