Rocky Patel Hamlet 2020 Robusto
Construction on these is flawless and packed to the gills as this is rock hard with no even a hint of a soft spot. The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper is also delicious. The flavor from the wrapper just lingers on your lips before you even light it. Medium chocolate in color with some nice oils as well.
After lighting this starts off with some medium cedar notes on the palate and retro. That wrapper leaves a slight spice with a little sweetness mixed in. After an inch the ash drops and then the very next puff the flavors change. Some espresso notes kick in and cedar is just about gone from the flavor and has become very smooth and mild on the retro. Still that sweet spice in the background as well. As I approach the end of the 2nd inch the coffee/espresso note is very nice. Smoke output is very good. Burn is not razor sharp but pretty close. Draw is perfect with just the right amount of resistance. End of the 1st 3rd and the ash drops to the floor. Flavors become even richer and more espresso like. The aroma is also very nice. Hard to describe but sort of like a smooth burnt wood which is very pleasant. So at the 1/2 way point I needed to go out and run some errands. I took this on the road with me and offer a brief conclusion for the 2nd 1/2. So the 2nd 1/2 offers more complexity and depth of flavor. Some leather and earth entered the mix and all the while that sweet spice from the wrapper is present. Still lingering on the lips. As we approached the finish there was a smooth wood component in there as well. So these are only about a week off the truck and probably need more time to acclimate. This is still a very good cigar even if I am disappointed. I say that because the raisin and fruit component that I really enjoyed so much, was absent. Not really a fair review since these haven't been in very long but even so I still rate this very high. 88. The one I had the other day would be up in the low 90's probably a 92 or so and that's also were many of my favorite cubans rate so that is really saying a lot. I'll follow this up in 2-3 weeks after the rest of these have had a chance to rest. |
