Rocky Patel Decade Robusto.
Wrapper is dark chocolate colored and dry. Description lists the wrapper as oily dark Sumatra. However, when I think of oily I think of Dunbarton. This would be the opposite of that.
Pre light draw, chocolate and sweetness 1st couple puffs has some spice with a little bit of saltiness and some cocoa. Nice start. Retro is a mild to medium cedar. The whole box pressed thing seems odd to me. Doesn’t fit in the ashtray very well and not a fan of how it feels in my hand or on my lips. Thats just a personal thing though and certainly doesn’t affect how this is smoking. About an inch in and burn is perfect. Every puff starts out with a mild sweetness then adds a little cedar and a chocolate element or maybe that cocoa. Aroma has cedar in it as well. Retro is the same. Also a slight sweet saltiness on the lips that’s lingering. Smoke output is very good. A little past the 1” mark the ash fell off when I set it down. About 1/3rd in and flavors are about the same but a little stronger. Medium strength. Retro is medium cedar. Smoke output very good. I did have to relight and burn went a little wonky but a few more puffs and it fixed itself. Slight spicy cocoa lingering on the lips now. Very nice overall so far. Also a little scratchiness on the back of the throat. Cuban montes do the same thing to me and it reminds of of that. It’s not a bad thing though. At the 1/2 way point now getting some creamy espresso notes on both the palate and aroma. Retro is the same. Last 1/3 now. Very smooth cocoa or espresso. Retro is also very smooth and cedar is gone. Smoke output is very good. Lingering sweetness on the lips. Also a little spice creeping in. It actually has some similarities to a Cuban Monte in the flavor profile. Nice complexity from the cocoa, espresso and spice notes. Very nice finish and a lingering aftertaste that is very pleasant as well as a nice spice on the lips. Cigar page says this is a 95 rated cigar. Probably from CA. I wouldn’t go that high. I thought it was good. I’d say 87-89. At 10-12bucks a stick the price is reasonable. It’s not one that I have to stock in the humidor but if someone handed me one I would certainly appreciate it and enjoy it. The finish on this was very nice. |
