Does anyone know of any cheap cigars that are shaped like the cigars almost every "Western" cowboy movie has? Clint is always chomping on a cigar about five inches long and half inch in diameter. It's more thin than a corona and I'm not sure what that vitola would be called. But it's just the size I want for smoking while driving around or doing yard work. Closest I've been able to find are Backwoods...which I'd prefer to avoid. I'd also like to get something at a reasonable price.

Rarely will they be better than Backwoods.

These are Italian cheroots, some wine flavored. Clint kept quit a few close by and would break them at certain points so that they matched up lengthwise from take to take throughout the day. Thompson's has some that are about 4 inches, maybe 5, and almost trumpet shaped.

Try Ramrods. As good as any other (very expensive) bourbon flavored cigar at $2.50/pack of 2. Usually at a Walgreens, maybe even a discount cigarrette store. Could also try Marsh Wheelings.

Also, they have a version out now called Clints.

DO NOT expect too much. These are short-filler, chopped tobacco, wrapper may even be that tobacco paper. Sure--try them. But I would not invest too much in the beginning. You may find that you would rather find a cheap bundle, long-filler, in about 28 ring gauge, if that even exists.

IMO Backwoods are as good as you will find.

Try a panatela. I have some Quintero panatelas that are tiny. May fit the bill a little better than the Walgreen's smokes (though I actually have heard good things).

Weeling deluze stogies far from suck. Then there is the italian stuff made by suraci; you really need to try denobilis and maybe ramrod. They will broaden your horizon.

I don't know what your normal smoking preferences are, but I think you'd be better served looking at the 4x30 or so tins, not the 3x20 or so cigarillos, and leaving the sheroots/etc behind.

Have you smoked the hoyo Pc, is it the sabrosa?

Yes--the 30-35 ring gauges are about the closest, but length probably doesn't matter. You will smoke them down to the Clint length anyway.

The cheroots will be the best bet, but the key is going to be the wrapper. Anything in Conn. broadleaf like that grown in Kentucky will work. You need the pitch black, rough and veiny, ugly wrapper; regardless of length; won't need to be cut; short filler so that every now and then, you can take it out of your mouth, squint menacingly, and spit the little piece of tobacco out.

Ramrods or wine-flavored cheroots, if you want the Clint experience.

But don't expect premium-cigar taste or smoothness.

If you want a smaller cigar and not worry about the look, panatellas and cigarillos will be too small and the wrapper too light, but would be much better smokes for the most part.

Those sound better than any other suggestion.

The long ones from Finck's--smoke them down or do like Clint and cut them down. Cut them in half.

The Marsh Wheelings look right, just tough to smoke.

Henry Clay in a 5X44 perfector in maduro/Conn. broadleaf would be a cowboy cigar, or the long thin panatella/Marsh Wheeling. Unless you can find someone that makes Daniel Websters.
