Question (Famous Factory Selects)

About once a year I go on a new budget cigar hunt. In Famous Cigars new catalog they have cigars by Rocky Patel, Quesada, Oliva and Alec Bradley called Factory Selects. My question is, has anybody tried or know anything about these? Their catalog or web site don't explain anything about them. Their running a Bongo sale (Buy 1 bundle, get a second bundle at half price). Judging buy the price, I would think their either seconds or short filler. Anybody have a clue???

I googled 'famous factory selects and the rocky ptel factory select R7s description from the famous website is (bold added by me):

ROCKY PATEL FACTORY SELECTS R72 CIGARS
Rocky Patel Factory Selects R72 Cigars are simply premium cigars at a discounted price. Each cigar is artfully crafted in Rocky Patel's factory, this masterpiece of a cigar is blended with a potent, yet perfectly-balanced all-Ligero long-filler and savory Corojo wrapper for the ultimate in flavor, complexity and aroma. If you're a Rocky fan, you're not going to want to miss this incredible deal. Pick yours up today!

the Quesda Q1 claims long filler, too

if you google what I googled you will find links to other cigar websites, looks like they are seconds from the factory

reminds me of the old MATASA seconds which were good, mild, sometimes inconsistent cigars

hope this is of help

I ordered the Oliva OV2's. I really enjoyed them! I don't really care what they claim, I like them, they are inexpensive, too.

I just ordered the JDN-J68 I'm pretty sure the JDN stands for Joya De Nicaragua. Hopefully I'll enjoy them as much as you do. I'll try the Olivas next...Thanks

I've had the all of the Oliva lines. Habano is pretty good, Connecticut I really liked (although they don't seem to have them anymore). The Cameroon I've only had the Petite Corona - which is a fantastic short smoke. The real winner is the maduro. It's a San Andreas Negro wrapper on Nic filler and Nic binder (Padron fans will understand). It's the only example of Oliva using that particular wrapper.

I just ordered the JDN's (damn free shipping email).

I also have had the Rocky Connecticut which are okay, nothing special.

Update: Just got them delivered, real good looking cigar, well made, burns great, and if you like full bodied cigars, you gotta try these. I have to say these are excellent. I'm going to try the Oliva Factory Selects next.

UPDATE: JDN-J68

I should of waited until I smoked more of these before I gave them my blessing. I've been through a bundle of them now. Although these didn't taste bad, half the bundle had draw problems and the cigars tunneled and kept going out. I getting reading to crack open The Oliva Factory Selects, hopefully I'll have better luck.

Mine have been in the cooler for about 10 days. I smoked 5 or so. I normally like to wait at least 2 weeks to let them. I did have relight problems on a couple of them. I like to wait even longer to get a better idea. The Oliva Habano Selects have been resting for a couple of months. They have gotten progressively better. I'm hopeful that the JDN's will as well.
