Has the fun gone out of College Football?
I grew up..watching the traditional Bowl season. Enjoyed the games, good natured ribbing..in rivalry games.
Now we have people who poison trees..of a rival school.. (WTF!) The venom seems to get nastier and nastier between rivals…(it's JUST A GAME) We turn on a game, and it's The Capital One Tostitos Fiesta Subway Bowl. Its like every game..is just a LONG commercial, interspersed with a few football plays now and then. I've probably watched less football this year..than I have in decades..and while I still love football..I just don't enjoy it as much.

I enjoyed the games a few weeks back leading up to the BCS. Man, the Bama/Auburn game was once in a lifetime thrilling. There were other games that weekend that were as thrilling. The NCAA is hands down more exciting than the NFL. I am a lifelong NFL guy and am thinking of switching to the NCAA. Pro football has lost its shine in a huge way. So many whiny huge ego over paid players these days. And the NFL commentators are horrible with very few exceptions. I am not an old school college football guy I'm sure it has changed too. But from a new college football guy NCAA football seems head and shoulders better than the NFL. My two cents.

Once in awhile, I get into a game….and just enjoy the competition. I just get tired of all the politics, and the commercialism of the games. However, at least I do have choice of seeing more games..than I did back in 70s.

When I first started college there were about 10 bowl games. I really only remember the Cotton, Orange and Rose Bowls. Now there are what ... 30 different bowl games. Hell your team can have a .500 season and still qualify to get into the Pizza or Hot Wings Bowl.
It's all a big money grab now ... and the powers that be shake their fingers and heads when players try to get a piece of the action. |

the million dollar payout sounds bif for teh schools, but then you find out the schools have to buy so many tickets, have to bring their bands, have to get hotels, etc... most teams lose money going to those bowl games - or at least such was the case a couple years ago. But they do it to recruit supposedly.
"Son, come to Purdue where we've played in Detroit 3 years ina row to a 3/4 full stadium..."

Yes the Little Caesars Pizza Detroit Bowl is where fans congregate to see the #8 team in the Big Ten (11, 12, 13, 14) play a team from (well it was the MAC #3 for several years because the ACC couldn't qualify enough teams)
