Islay malt question for the experts
I am fairly new to scotch and have been experimenting with Islay malts. I notice two unique aromas/tastes with these. One the iodine, medicinal flavor, and two the smokiness. Are both of these the results of peat fire drying of the malt? Or, is the medicinal aroma/flavor the result of environment (sea air, salt, etc) ? Just curious.
