Personally I've always thought Ella Fitzgerald had the better voice. But Billie Holiday had some great work too.

Ella has a better voice and is untouchable when it comes to scat. However, Billie has a passion and rawness that I really like.

I've been listening to Fitzgerald, Vaughn and Krall this week... Krall tries, and she does play the piano, and she could be a real babe, but she lacks the pipes. Vaughn may have been the best, what a voice.

Billie is a great favorite of mine ... some of those Basie recordings are as fresh as the day they were cut.
