I have thought about blocking people who incessantly post that type of thing.

It's more than Facebook, although that IS a contributing factor.

Well, don't keep us in the dark. What are the other factors?

Facebook has actually been a positive thing for cigar smokers. It's neutral territory where people from various boards can get together and discuss without the turf wars and petty contempt.

In addition every manufacturer out there, their reps. and others in the business have Facebook presences.

I don't know all the contributing factors or the roles they play.

Other private forums
Perceived or real cliquishness here
Sometime brutish treatment by me
Sometime brutish treatment by others
Economy, people losing jobs, having less discretionary spending money to pursue a somewhat costly endeavour like cigars.
Economy, people losing jobs, not willing to risk employment to post on a cigar forum.
Cigar forums really are a niche field of discussion.
FOGs who say they know all they need to know to enjoy this past time.
FOGs who say they're tired of the same old discussions over and over again.
People's kids are growing and they'd rather spend time with their families than on the computer.
CW not always as responsive to technological changes as some might want us to be.
Apathetic ownership which, for whatever reason, even though most have never been a real presence, STILL manages to pervade the board.
Facebook
Twitter
Other cigar discussion venues.
The cigar forum's day has passed, although other boards are holding strong.
The forum, as an entity's day has passed, although some others are thriving.
Other.

These are as they came to mind, I have no, real, empirical evidence of these just discussions in private with folks on the topic.

What's your name over there? I'll send you a Friend request.

Facebook, like any other thing in life, is exactly what you make of it. No more, no less. It got me back in touch with friends I'd lost contact with ages ago, which is why I got on there in the first place. I stay there to stay in touch. Doing so takes exactly *NO* time away from CW.

BTW...those people who feel compelled to post what they wear, when they're going to bed, etc...they're simply putting the fact that they're losers out there for the whole frickin' world to see.

Actually, I'm starting to get on FB much more. The folks I'm currently working with want to know what is going on with me in Saudi. The best way for me to reach all of them is on FB, unless I learn how to do a blog. I haven't even looked into that. I'm too busy with other stuff, like telling people that I am actually packing.

I have a FB account, go check every week or so.

I just don't get it.

Fake "Friends" have replaced real ones for most people, I guess.
