I bought a Cigar Oasis and put it in my wine cooler. you all know I had problems getting everything settled down but it is finally at 70%. But my Oasis is still running constantly, I just put a new cartridge on it 6days ago. I have the dial set to the lowest setting as well. Can anyone (mhotec ) tell me how or if I should tweek the dial. Or if there is somthing wrong with it?

Make sure that it is sitting high above the boxes and nothing blocks the intake or exhaust fan. I have one in my wine cooler and it does not go on that often. My cooler is lined with Spanish cedar that will retain humidity. I also have a computer fan under the bottom shelf blowing up 3 minutes every 2 hours. Its rock solid 67%.

Very surprised to hear that it is going on often in the wine cooler since there is such a good seal.

I don't know either. I haven't dealt with one inside a wine cooler. Is the compressor cycling on and off?

It may be the compresor cycle with defrosting taking humidity out while the Oasis is trying to keep it up. I have my wine cooler in the basement and unplugged, hence no compresor. The Oasis hardly runs and it keeps at 68%.

Yea it does cycle quite often right now. It is 100 almost every day, and we don't use the a/c due to the high cost of power. I might try to tweek the unit up to 72 and see if that helps.

That would be it. Everytime the compressor kicks on, the humidity will drop like a rock. The Cigar Oasis will kick on and run until the RH goes back to its set point. If th compressor kicks on, it will repeat the process. That is essentially going to make the Oasis run non-stop and you'll blow through a cartridge rather quickly.

stempler,
The compressor cools via an evaporative effect, so it is removing moisture as it operates. At a 100 degrees the cooling unit probably runs nearly constantly also which can take your RH down to the 50's & 60's pretty quickly. You can refill the Cigar Oasis cartridges with distilled water a number of times. At the rate you are blowing through them, bacterial growth in the cartridge from standing water is not going to be an issue. You may also want to add a small tub of PG/water/foam or one of the bead products to get additional moisture reserve for the "summer season". Cheers, Bob Staebell www.aristocrathumidors.com |

OK this is were I am at with this. I turned my computer fan down to 10 minutes every other hour. I turned off the oasis and will run it in the winter as I don't want to burn this little baby up. I already have beeds ( one lbs) in the wine cooler. I am holding 67% for the last couple of days with this method and will keep it this way for the summer. I will post in a few days to update my progress. Thanks for the guys I do appreciate it.
