One issue that I've had with roasting in the summer with a poppery II is, when it's really hot, and most people are running their A/C, our current to the house isn't good enough to get the popper to hit the 2nd crack. Maybe it's just my location, but I've had this happen several times, and wasted coffee beans in the process.

To help the situation, I bought an original Poppery from E-Bay that works much better IMO (more wattage).

To me, 1st crack sounds like popcorn popping, or something of that nature, more violent, where the 2nd crack sounds more like rice crispies popping, much more subtle, almost muted sounding, and that's when I get more smoke from the popper.

Usually, depending on the beans, as soon as I hear that subtle popping of the 2nd crack, I turn the popper off, dump the beans into a pan and let them cool.
