"Burn" is often (but not always) a product of the proof. If it seems hot to you, you can always add a dab of water.

Be sure that Wild Turkey is 101, not 80. Otherwise, it's not worth the money.

Here's another option, just to confuse. It's inexpensive, smooth, and delicious: Elijah Craig 12 y.o. It's an unusual recommendation from me because it's from Heaven Hill, and I'm not a big fan. Hard to believe they can sell a 12 y.o. whiskey so damn cheap, but given the size of their operation, I guess they've got plenty to burn (heh).
