Lighters

OK, can anyone tell me what makes the igniter work on torch lighters?

I took one apart because the button would not go down far enough to engage the igniter and light. I put it back together, and now it won't spark.

What gives?

They use piezoelectric ignition. Here is a link to a related article on the How Stuff Works website.

Try boosting it with your car battery. If it lights, put it on the charger for 2 hours.

Might want to try to get the igniter a little closer to the flame nozzle. The gap may be too wide for the spark.
