BEETLES!!!!!

So I go to pull a smoke out last night....a CAO Criollo I bought on Friday. I start to take it out of the paper and there are 2 holes that go THROUGH the paper.

So now I am pi$$ed because I 1) can't smoke the stogie I wanted to. 2) I might have gotten beetles.

So I pull out evenything and look through all my gars. And there is nothing. Not a sign anywhere, other than the Criollo. The thing about my Humi is 90% of the cigars are Thompson label...and 70% of them are cello wrapped. So a beetle isn't getting very far, and if it does....he can have it. Those Thompsons won't be in there long anyway.

So, I pulled out the CAO and I am taking it back to the shop. Do I need to take the precautionary measures, even though a thourough check found nothing?

Thanks for the help!!!!!

Beetles can eat though cello just as easy as paper. they will not hold anything back.

Remember, all tobacco products can have beetle eggs in there... its the humidity and temp that gets them to hatch.

Check your humidor temp and humidity and make sure they are not too high.

Freeze 'em, and you'll sleep better at night. Double seal in ziplocks, with as much air removed as possible; 4 days in deep freeze, 1 day in fridge, 1 day at room temp, and back to the humi

I have been playing with that recently. I think the humidity is too high, so I removed one of the Drymistat sticks I had in there. Trying to lower it.....

edit: Thanks for the info!!!!

Took the cigar back to the shop. The owner exchanged it, no problems. H told me how to plug the holes, and he said he would smoke it himself.

I got a replacement....and will keep an eye out on my Humi now!

He said once you cut the end off, you pull out a little bit of the tobacco, and chew on it. (He did not say if you pull it from the cigar or the cup cap. I don't think it matters.) Once you have chewed on it a bit you put it in the holes, and stuff it in using a toothpick.

Then you are good to go!!! The cigar I took back had 2 holes in it. I am not sure how this would work in a cigar that looks like swiss cheese....but for a few holes, I can see this working.

Enjoy!!

God I am just terrified of the damn things... A lot of places did give me the "freeze em" reccomendation. Is that working out for anyone else?
