Been thinking about getting a pipe
Reading this forum a bit has peaked my interest. Looking for recommendations for a first pipe, I prefer the straight billiard shape based on everything I've looked at online. Dark in color and not smooth, under $60 with the P&C discount. I saw a Baraccini Dark Rustic that looked like it might fit the bill, but read a couple places indicating low quality stem and bowl. Picked out Dunhill Flake for a first tin to try. Any help is appreciated.

Check out these Roma sandblast pipes. Nice pipes for the price.

As for tobacco, Dunhill flake is really good Virginia. It is nothing like cigar tobacco. This tobacco is sweet on the bright side, bit of hay, big flavor for a Virginia flake.

Don't let people tell you that you should start with an aromatic.
If you love cigars, you'd prolly prefer tobacco that tasted like tobacco.

Try some of the burley tobaccos. To me, they seem to have more of a true tobacco taste. You might try Prince Albert, Sir Walter Raleigh, Velvet, just to name a few. Most of the Dunhill tobaccos are very good. You might also want to try their "Early Morning Pipe".
Make sure you have plenty of pipe cleaners and lighter fluid for your lighter. I like the tapered pipe cleaners made by Decatur. 80 for $1.99 is a good deal. There are cheaper ones, but Decatur are the ones I like. If you want to burn your fingers, you can always use a Bic! I like my Zippo butane pipe lighter. It's very dependable. Stanwell makes good pipes. I recently purchased a brushed brown rustic poker shaped pipe. It smokes great. I can't remember the price but I think it was about $49.00. I purchased a Baraccini smooth brown poker and it sucked. That's what I get for buying a cheap pipe. After smoking it for a while, it got too hot, and the finish started to drip away! Yes, I ended up with stain on my hands. It also did not have a good seal between the shank and the stem. Rather than sending it back, I threw it in my tool box along with some tobacco! Sometimes you get lucky with inexpensive brand pipes and sometimes you don't.
