These are rather hard to find in my neighborhood, but I got a 6-pack of each the other day. It was the first time I'd tried Loft, and the second time I'd had 1554.

Love these beers. The 1554 is a 'swartbier' in the tradition of 16th century Brussels brewers. Veery mellow and distinctive, kind of like Mackesson's (sp?) with a touch of that same cocoa/cafe au lait flavor, but not as strong.

Loft is a wheat and barley combination that has a smooth, earthy taste with a lighter touch than most of the New Belgium beers.

One interesting aspect is how completely different 1554 tastes when it's too cold. I get better flavor from darker beer when I take it out of the fridge and leave it on the counter for 15-20 minutes before opening. When 1554 is drunk right out of the fridge, it seems the flavors don't "marry" as well.
