How to use a Cigar punch

As part of a recent bomb I received a My Father ashtray still in the wrapper and it came with a small punch.

Have had lots of problems with 10+ year old smokes not doing well with a guillotine cutter, and some have suggested using a punch instead.

Any tips, tricks, or general info on how to use a punch? Have never used anything but a guillotine cutter.

Thanks,
Sean

yep

Center the punch the best you can and push on it with a rotating motion. It doesn't take much force to punch through the cap. You will be left with a clean cut and a tiny tobacco "donut hole."

Great thanks.
That's how I assumed it was done, but figured it was worth asking to be sure

Hopefully it helps with the dry, brittle wrappers I keep getting from smokes over 10+ ywars old

a few months in a 70% humidity situation should solve the dry brittle part of that problem... but not everyone wants to wait 3-6 months to smoke a cigar...

Really don't know why they are still so dry, brittle and prone to peeling wrappers after being at 65% in my tupperdoor for months.

Seems like they should be plenty hydrated.

A little perplexing to me

John uses a punch and has god luck with it. At Maxwell's, I've taken to a vcut lately. So much smoke to be had.

My son picked up a V-Cutter at a local shop and it has become my new favorite way to cut a cigar.

What differences have you and @BigO noticed with the v cutter vs other methods?

I don't know. It just seems to cut it perfectly and the cigar burns perfectly.
